Miss World Runner-Up Gwendoline Ruais Gives Honor to Southville Foreign University

Gwendoline Ruais, a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Business and Management at Southville Foreign University under a program of the University of Sunderland in the UK, certainly made her alma mater proud when she won big at the Miss World pageant in London on November 6, 2011. She was chosen as runner up to Miss Venezuela, who won the 2011 Miss World crown.

We saw on television that she was the tallest among the seven finalists, among the most graceful and she gave among the best statements on the relevance of Miss World and on the Beauty with a Purpose concept.

Gwendoline Ruais was born in Makati City to a French father and a Filipino mother, and then she spent her earliest years in Thailand and in France. She came back to the Philippines at age 11 and continued her studies here.

When Gwendoline Ruais won the Miss World Philippines title in September 2011, she marked
several firsts:

- first time in Philippine pageant history that the winner won a one-million-peso cash prize and a completely furnished Chateau Elysee condo unit from SM Development Corp. These are in addition to other exciting prizes.
- first time that the reigning Miss World -- 2010 Miss USA Alexandria Mills -- traveled to the Philippines to crown the pageant winner
- Gwendonline Ruais was the first winner under the Miss World franchise acquired by Cory Quirino
